WELCOME TO THE AFHL U18AAA DIVISION!

Loney, Schaaf named Humanitarians of the Month for December

AFHL:

Esme Loney (U18 AAA Lloydminster Steelers)

Esme is not only a leader on the ice but an outstanding role model in our community. From the moment you meet Esme, her positive energy is contagious. She has a natural ability to uplift those around her—teammates, coaches, and community members alike. Whether it’s during a tough game or a team practice, Esme leads by example through her determination, sportsmanship, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Her leadership is not about words alone; it’s demonstrated daily through her actions and the respect she shows to everyone she encounters. Beyond her athletic achievements, Esme’s humanitarian spirit shines through her extensive community involvement. She is always the first to volunteer her time, whether it’s helping at local events, supporting youth programs, or giving back through team initiatives.

Esme embodies the true meaning of community—showing compassion, kindness, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference wherever she can. Esme’s character, humility, and selflessness make her stand out as an exceptional young leader. She represents the best of what sport and community involvement can be—someone who not only strives for success personally but also inspires others to do the same.

Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly support Esme Loney for any recognition or opportunity that celebrates her humanitarian contributions and leadership. She is a true ambassador for her team, her community, and the values of respect, generosity, and integrity.

AEHL:

Kade Schaaf (U15 AAA Calgary Royals)

This season, the Calgary Royals U15 AAA team has been very focused on success both on and off the ice. We have made a strong commitment as a team to giving back to our communities where time and resources allow. Kade has been instrumental in bringing forward some fantastic ideas and getting the team motivated and excited to participate.

The team volunteered at a younger community league tournament earlier this year, helping out with timekeeping and music duties. Kade was an enthusiastic participant and really helped create a great environment for the younger kids and his teammates. Kade was also involved in setting up a team volunteering event at a local church that helps feed the less fortunate. Kade’s leadership during the event helped his teammates feel at ease and created a really wonderful experience for the guests and the team.

We have also started a mentorship program with younger teams this year, and Kade has been equally enthusiastic about helping the younger kids as he has been with his own team. In addition, the coaches report that the energy, work ethic, and fun that he brings to the team and the dressing room have been invaluable in helping create a positive and fun environment for all.

It is no exaggeration to say that Kade’s contributions to his team and his community are remarkable, impactful, and inspiring.
