The puck is set to drop on a new Alberta Female Hockey League Opening Week to kick off the new season, and the U18 AAA division is wasting no time getting things started.
All eight AFHL U18 AAA teams meet in Okotoks this weekend for the AFHL U18 AAA Showcase, with eight regular-season games taking place across Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.
Each team will hit the ice twice over the course of the weekend, giving players, coaches and fans an early look at the U18 AAA field.
A championship matchup to open the season
One of the weekend’s marquee matchups comes Saturday afternoon when the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs meet the Edmonton Jr. Oilers White at 4 p.m. The matchup brings together the program behind the reigning national champions and the program that captured the national title in 2025, providing an early-season test for two teams with recent success on the national stage.
But that is just one of several intriguing matchups on tap.
The Showcase gets underway Saturday at 1:30 p.m. when the SPKAC Mazurick Architecture Reign take on the Rocky Mountain Raiders. The PWM Lloydminster Steelers and Calgary Fire Red follow at 4:15 p.m., before Calgary Fire Black and the St. Albert Raiders Slash close out the opening day at 7 p.m.
All eight teams return to the ice Sunday for their second games of the season.
The full SHOWCASE SCHEDULE, and links to view the games on FloHockey (by subscription), are available on the AFHL U18AAA website.
With every team in action twice and regular-season points on the line from the opening puck drop, the Showcase provides an early opportunity for teams to set the tone for the season ahead.
Eight teams. Eight games. Two days of hockey.
The 2026-27 AFHL U18 AAA season starts in Okotoks.
In light of the recent passing of AFHL player Peyton Walker, all teams competing at the U18 AAA Showcase will wear memorial Team Peyton stickers on their helmets. This weekend’s games will be dedicated to Peyton and her family as the AFHL community comes together to honour her memory.
