The AFHL U18 AAA Playoffs continued with two highly competitive best-of-three semifinal series, with four teams battling for a place in the league championship. After a pair of hard-fought matchups, the Red Deer Chiefs and St. Albert Slash emerged as the finalists and will now compete for the AFHL title.
Edmonton Jr. Oilers vs Red Deer Chiefs
The Red Deer Chiefs advanced after defeating the Edmonton Jr. Oilers two games to one in a tightly contested series. Red Deer opened the series with a dramatic 2–1 shootout victory in Game 1 before the Oilers responded with a 2–0 win in Game 2 to force a deciding game. In Game 3, the Chiefs delivered a strong performance, earning a 4–2 victory to close out the series and eliminate the regular-season league leaders.
St. Albert Slash vs Calgary Fire White
The St. Albert Slash also needed three games to move on, overcoming an early deficit in their series against Calgary Fire White. After dropping Game 1 by a 3–0 score, the Slash bounced back with a high-scoring 6–5 win in Game 2 to even the series. St. Albert then sealed their spot in the final with a 2–1 overtime victory in Game 3.
With the semifinal round complete, the Red Deer Chiefs and St. Albert Slash will meet in the AFHL U18 AAA League Championship beginning Wednesday, March 18. The winner will advance to the Pacific Championships to face the champion from the BC league. The two teams were evenly matched during the regular season, splitting their four-game series 2–2.
